Founder Victoria Jones created SAYA designs in Indonesia, where her environmentally conscious journey began. Saya stands for ‘my’ in Indonesian. While teaching in Bali in 2015, Victoria became aware of the exploitation of the palm oil industry in Indonesia. She began working with local artisans to launch SAYA Designs, which takes root wood salvaged from plantations across Indonesia and turns it into something beautiful and purposeful: handcrafted wooden accessories designed from the natural flora and fauna in Indonesia. Each piece is hand carved by our artisans, sanded to the most refined grain using simple tools and techniques, and finished with natural wax and oils. SAYA's team of Bali artisans receives living wages and support from the company. Using wood as an alternative to plastic and elastic means they are fully biodegradable with recyclable packaging.
SAYA is a 1% for the Planet member and supporter of Women's Earth Alliance, a group of international women who amplifies the voices of women-led, grassroots solutions to protect our environment and strengthen communities from the inside out. Through Victoria's commitment to our home- the planet - she continues to learn how to change business for the better and be part of the growing green economy.
